A brief description of each of the companies and their activities are given below:
E-City Entertainment (I) Pvt. Limited –
Tier Two Cities : Large Malls India’s first company to set up Family Entertainment
Centers (FECs) that provides the experience of movies, gaming and food under one roof.
At present 3 FECs are in operation and 3 more are scheduled to open by 2008.
E-City Entertainment aims to be the best out-of-home entertainment and shopping
experience provider through its Family Entertainment Centres (FECs), offering a wide variety
of leisure, entertainment, recreation and shopping options – all under one roof.
The company would have developed and operated 20,00,000 sq. ft. of commercial realty across
six FECs (under the brand – Fun Republic) by December 2007, considering existing locations
in Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Chandigarh and those nearing completion in Lucknow and Coimbatore.
IL&FS Private Equity Trust has recently committed to invest USD 23 million to support this
venture. The investment motives are a strong indicator of a rock solid and a vibrant market
for tier two city - large malls strategy. The upsurge in individual incomes has been the growth
driver for the buoyant retail real estate.
Fun Multiplex Pvt. Ltd. –
Formed in April 2005, as a spin off of E-City Entertainment (I) Pvt Ltd with an objective to
be the finest entertainment experience provider, enabling superior cinema viewing and real time
leisure experiences to its patrons by combining the best in technology, comfort, leisure and
hospitality. The restructuring has been a conscious effort to delineate the real estate assets
form the entertainment ones.
Fun Multiplex (under the brand – Fun Cinemas) is currently operating 17 screens in New Delhi,
Mumbai, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad, and 30,000 sq ft of gaming area in three locations. The
complete outlay by second quarter 2008 would have more than 150 screens operational in 36
locations.
The Company also operates a dynamic gaming arcade from Fun Multiplex. The facility offers and
addictive experience of the best arcade games and skill based activities, such bowling and pool.
Fun Gaming currently operates three gaming destinations, with the larges one operational at Fun
Republic, Andheri.
The marketing and operations prowess has enabled loyalties amongst the consumer group. Fun Cinemas
clocks 30% of sales from its Loyalty Program known as Fun Rewards.
E-City Property Management Services Pvt. Ltd. (EPMS) –
EPMS is committed to provide the most integrated and reliable mall management and asset services
in the country through the highest order of integrity and value for our clients, business partners,
shareholders and the community.
The company looks forward to banking on its existing synergies in entertainment and retail operations
and offering mall management services, project development assistance, retail leasing & brokerage services
and related advisory & research support.
The Company has recently acquired business of three large malls and a school at New Delhi.
E-City Digital Cinemas Pvt. Ltd. –
The company has a mission to revolutionalize movie business in the country by bringing in state-of-art
digital technology, thereby eliminating print costs, curbing piracy and offering globally benchmarked cinema-viewing with uniform audio-visual experience, to theatrical audiences.
While 25 cinemas have already been registered by individual exhibitors for digital exhibition in the
Bombay circuit, the company plans to digitize 500 screens by end 2008. E-City Digital has also initiated
the acquisition strategy and has entered into a strategic alliance with Shree Vijay Raj Entertainment &
Software Limited (SVRESL) – a USD 4.8 million exhibition company which controls and manages around 90
cinemas in the state of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The Cinemas are generally taken under control via a
theater hire arrangement, whereby, the Company acquires the programming rights of the theater for three
to five years with committed remuneration per week to the theater owner.
The Company would also build a platform for a Tier Three City – Hyper and a Cinema retail real estate
strategy. The ongoing theater hire relationship could be converted into an enhanced Lessor / Lessee one
or a possible sale transaction can be actioned.
